If you do not have one, you can use a piece of string or fabric then measure it up against a ruler. If you don't have that, you can measure up using our new weight based size guide.

Really like the Harness

My cat doesn't seem to mind wearing his Harness, it's light weight and fits well.
At first he thought he couldn't walk but on the second day of wearing it he ventured outdoors, then out to the front of the house and came home with his Harness all grubby as he'd had a roll around in the gravel driveway.
We are going on the road in our Motorhome soon so he will be wearing it everyday.
He looks very flash in it.

Boswell is keen as mustard to go outside and explore the world with this leash and harness on. So easy to put on too, not like the awkward versions that go over the head.

Really Well Made Harness

This was the third harness I have bought from Catventure for my black cat but this time I got the natural colour as my cat is black and it is easier to see him with the natural colour when he goes under my deck while I watch him. It is extremely well made and the large size fits well. Thank you.

Best Harness ever

I did a review for the lilac coloured one I bought for our eldest cat, so this one was for the younger cat Nuka. I wanted blue but you were out of stock, however that makes difference to how well they work. Nuka, wears the black harness and he is notoriously difficult to crate. Now that I have a pram the harness makes it super easy and no stress for him, so it's a win all round. The are both content in the back seat of the car all strapped in with no howling from either cat.

Abby started wearing her harness about 4 months ago. She's a rescue cat, has had babies and now is a little overweight. Fitting the harness was awkward at first because of her size and she managed to escape once. A noisy truck frightened her and she backed out of the harness. This was my fault as I don't think I had the harness tight enough. Now Abby is comfortable wearing the harness and I'm comfortable fitting it tighter. We've gone so far as to order a 2nd harness with a 1.5m lead (for short walks - lol). The 1st one we ordered is a black one and Abby likes to roll around on the ground (in the dirt rather than the concrete) so keeping it clean is an issue. I would like to see the neck part to be narrower and the body part to be a little wider.

Camping Adventures

My cat, Gem loves her Catventure Harness, her second one now.
She wears it while travelling and camping in our campervan.
We have been on 4 trips now. On one ocassion she managed to get her shoulders out of her harness. She was totally freaked out and scared when a magpie entered through the open sliding door of our van.
She has had no issues since.

Great harness

My cat loves her harness! She is able to walk, run, and play normally. Does have to be quite tight for her not to escape and had to size down because of this but overall is great!!

Nicely made, but not escape-proof

I have a 1.5yo boy Burmese and have tried many harnesses so he can be on the lead while I'm gardening at the front of my pace. However, he is an explorer and escapes from all harnesses, including this one, by making the lead go as far as it can (taught), and then jumping backwards and pulling himself out of the harness, even when it's been wrapped tightly. The only harness that worked well was a strap version when my fella was a kitten. However they're not made large enough for cats as the strap length that runs along the top of the spine between the collar and the body is not long enough.

For safety reasons, we want to clarify that our Catventure harnesses are designed for supervised walking only, with the lead held by the handler. They are not designed for tethering or tying a cat off while stationary.

Tethering can be dangerous for cats, particularly confident or athletic explorers. When a cat reaches the end of a fixed lead and jumps or pulls backwards, it creates sudden force that can lead to:

- Neck, spine or shoulder injuries
- Panic responses that increase escape behaviour
- Harness twisting or riding up into unsafe positions
- A cat becoming tangled or trapped if startled

These risks exist with all cat harnesses, not just ours, which is why most vets and behaviourists strongly advise against tethering cats.

Using a harness for calm, guided walking allows the cat to move freely while staying safe and gives the handler control if the cat startles or reverses suddenly.

A recent Vet trip proved to be painless for me and no stress for both our cats as they were on the back seat of the car rather than in a cat carrier. Best product around as my boy Hali has extracated himself from more than one harness, but not this one!

If your cat has never worn a cat harness or a cat collar it may be a slow transition for your kitty so please be patient. Let them sniff it, inspect it, encourage them with pats and treats. We also recommend the process inside the home as it is easier to put on. More detailed instructions and tips can be found on our blog post here.
Each cat is unique. Some may take up the harness training really quick and some may take some more work. Regular training is the best way to speed up your cats walking progress and confidence.

Remember, training your cat to walk your cat with a harness and leash is not a race. The trick is to start slow, take baby steps forward, and expect setbacks. Some of our best training tips can be found on our blog here.
Leave the cat harness out for your cat to sniff and inspect, place the harness somewhere familiar without invading their safe spaces. Once your cat is comfortable and has lived with the harness in their space, we recommend trying on the harness inside the home. Let them walk around in it inside the home before attaching the leash and taking your cats outdoors.
