Every year, WIRES receives thousands of calls for advice concerning interactions between domestic pets and native animals. Sadly, this is a common cause of injury in suburban areas and if the injured native animal is not immediately taken to receive veterinary care, the consequences can be fatal. Luckily, there are some precautions that can be taken to help minimise the risks of wildlife being injured, and to avoid unpleasant situations for your family pet. WIRES have many initiatives including National Grants, Emergency funding, Landcare Alliance, Specialised projects (more recently Koalas and Native Animal Disease Research), Conservation projects and the Water for Wildlife initiative.
Through social media, there is even more visibility with the reality that cat rescue groups are facing. As a charity, cat rescue groups depend on community support to cover the costs of running the rescue. The costs include professional care and advisory staff; veterinary expenses including health checks, desexing and any necessary treatments or surgery; vaccinations; microchips; kitty litter as well as costs to promote their adoptions and welfare work plus administration costs.

I'm not sure that my adult rescue cat will ever be harness ready, it will be a low moving ongoing process and we're not even at the actual trying the harness on stage!! But I can say I was impressed with the quality of the harness, it's light and well made. I went with the training bundle, I knew my cat would be resistant (she does not like to be restrained in anyway or form) and so this seemed like a great opportunity to seek advice. And what a great idea - Mel was phenomenal. Our 90minute Zoom flew by, she's just such a lovely person and was sensitive to our situation - also got to e-meet some of her own Tuxedo-wearing furry friends! After trying multiple other harnesses and several months of trialling to no avail , I purchased Adventurecat package to include training. As we were running out of time for an upcoming trip. Harness arrived and within 72 hours of the training I was able to take my boy outside on a leash. Every morning he now purrs waiting for harness to be put on and we goi for a walk outside.
Our little Indie suffers from anxiety. 2 weeks on and she has her harness on. She is doing the 'I can't walk or move' syndrome but we will keep trying to get her to walk. The training session was very helpful and we are on the journey to get her walking with her harness.

Training my 1.5yr old rescue girl was very easy because Melina made me feel secure and capable of following the training process, and the harness fits comfortably yet snug and secure preventing my furry little one from getting free of it (true and tested with my cat being startled by passer by in my front yard).
It appears that the cat laws are changing here in WA, towards cats on a lead or confined to indoors. I wanted for my kitty to be able to go outside and benefit from sunshine, fresh air, insect and bird watching, etc. This training package is a really good solution, and cheaper than a cat run.
My kitty looooves her harness which we use in the morning for about 30 minutes each day. She has become accustomed to the routine, and has taken to leading me to the harness and treats, requesting I put the harness and lead on her so she can go on her daily adventure.
Walking a cat is a lot less energy intensive than a dog. I am seriously considering training my other cats next!
Bow-Unn begins to walk and run by herself but she's scare peoples and other pets. In the other hand, she looks very happy when going outside.
Melina was very professional and patient when training both Luka and I to using the harness. She is very knowledgeable and gave some great pointers on how to manage each progress. Luka has progressed very well, already wearing the harness without concerns, except the neck piece. He’s not keen on that being tight but we’re getting there. Melina had made it clear that if we were to strike any issued that I could email her. And I have. I chose an incorrect size for him so I was also given the option to upsize and return the other, which I did. Very happy with the service. Thanks Melina!!
